Tips to Refocus Yourself and Your Team

Monday, September 20, 2010

Here are some tips to refocus yourself and your team.

  1. Retreat.
Take some time to gain perspective.  Allow the most powerful computer in the world time to work (your brain)! Constant motion and active does not equate to effectiveness.
  2. Ask yourself and your team more appreciative questions.
The news is filled with negative news; rarely does it highlight positive things.  We are so conditioned to focus on the problems and how to fix them that we do not take the time to recognize how far we come or that we have plenty to be grateful for. Research shows that people and teams who cultivate positivity deal with adversity much better than those who don’t.   The questions we ask ourselves and others can shift our attitude and mood.  Ask yourself and your team "What is going well?"
  3. Do something about it.
Take action to improve the situation, even if it is merely a shift in your attitude.
  4. Cultivate your resources.
The three resources you must manage are time, money and energy.  Identify your strengths. Identify the strengths of your team too.
  5. Breathe
